“Driving is an skill but it is futile when you met an accident”

In India we are facing several challenges on the road,  the primary challenge is animals getting into contact with the vehicles. The following are a major reasons why we have such things –

Why are animals on the road?

Why does barricading play a vital role in preventing animals and humans?

Proper Signals and Signs

.1. Why are animals on the road ?

India records the highest death rate every year. 474 people die every day by road accidents. According to the 2011 census, India has the second-largest population in the world. It has been predicted that we are now on top as far as population is concerned. Now the question arises can we increase land, water, and other natural resources, the answer is No. Therefore population density has increased rapidly in the past few years and due to this traffic on roads has increased. Due to this we have enhanced our reach in infrastructure and resulted that many animals have lost their home. This has not been happening in a day or so in a year. The human quench of conquering the world has taken the lives, shelter, and food of so many creatures. Therefore this development cycle has forced animals to live on the roadside and many times on the road as well. “According to reports, dogs account for 58% of all animal-related incidents on roads, with cattle accounting for the remaining 25.4%. The government’s road accident reports, which are based on police FIRs, demonstrate that these data are somewhat at odds with the causes of crashes. “According to the most recent National Crime Records Bureau report on accidental deaths and suicides in 2021, a copy of which can be found in this article in “The Tribune,” 22% of road users died in 22 accidents on the road last year that were brought on by stray animals crossing the roads in various parts of India.”2 Previously it was due to the lack of infrastructure of roads and illegal and irregularly parked vehicles on the roads. But these road accidents nowadays usually occur due to stray animals on the roads causing major casualties on roads. As road infrastructure is developing day by day four-lane and six-lane highways are being made in India allowing vehicles to run at the speed of 80-120 Km/hour on the highways. However, the stray animals on the roads are creating havoc by increasing the number of deaths in road accidents. These stray animals include both wild animals and domestic animals’ wild animals [1].

2. Why barricading plays vital role in preventing animals :

Barricading on the road is still a challenge in India and we are facing it every day. Most of our road accidents are due to animal and vehicle collisions due to which humans and animals both lose their lives. Due to the regular movement of the vehicles roads are clean as compared to muddy land where there are various inspectors and other things, especially on rainy days. Due to this a lot of animals acquire roads to rest and we don’t have any law over speed that limits the speed of our vehicles (Except a few highways which have speedometers). This scenario results in the loss of humans and animals.

3. Proper Signals and Signs :

Demarcations which we see on the roads are not very helpful. There are two main reasons (a). Except expressways and few highways not every road has proper signals and signs due to which most of us drive / ride our vehicles in any random order as per our comfort (b). Proper maintenance of signals and signs once they are drawn, and due to which they are in long use. This is a major reason why we are not used to road signs and following them too.

4. Conclusion :

As we have discussed proper barricading, using proper signals, and saving natural resources we can resolve animal and human collisions.
